Wayne Shorter is an American jazz saxophonist, composer, and arranger, born on August 25, 1933, in Newark, New Jersey and dead on March 2nd, 2023 in Los Angeles.
He began his career in the 1950s, playing with local groups in Newark and New York. He quickly gained the attention of major jazz musicians, including Horace Silver and Maynard Ferguson, and began playing with renowned artists such as Art Blakey, Miles Davis, and Herbie Hancock.
During the 1960s, Wayne Shorter was a member of Miles Davis' famous quintet, with whom he recorded several major albums such as "ESP", "Miles Smiles", and "Nefertiti". He also recorded several albums as a leader, which were hailed for their innovation and creativity, including "Speak No Evil" and "The All Seeing Eye".
During the 1970s, Wayne Shorter joined the fusion group Weather Report, which he co-founded with keyboardist Joe Zawinul. The group achieved great success and recorded several acclaimed albums, such as "Black Market" and "Heavy Weather". After the dissolution of Weather Report in 1986, Wayne Shorter pursued a solo career and continued to record and perform with renowned jazz musicians.
Over the decades, Wayne Shorter has won numerous awards and honors for his contribution to music, including several Grammy Awards. He is also a member of the prestigious National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Masters Fellowship and has been inducted into the International Jazz Hall of Fame.
