Notes and Editorial Reviews
Mariss Jansons's outstanding Tchaikovsky series with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra makes a welcome appearance in this boxed set, confirming all I have said about the individual issues over the last three years, It may still seem odd to those who have not sampled these consistently refreshing, beautifully paced and structured performances that the Oslo Philharmonic can so successfully match itself against the world's greatest orchestras, but the evidence here seems clearer to me every time I hear them and make comparisons.
Jansons in Tchaikovsky has the gift of conveying the full power and poetry of these works, naturally without indulging in wilful distortions or exaggerations. The whole set provides a bench-mark in this area, not only for interpretation but for brilliant and atmospheric recording quality too, against which others now have to be judged.

Tchaikovsky: Complete Symphonies – Oslo Philharmonic, Mariss Jansons
‘Janson's Tchaikovsky series, which includes Manfred, is self-recommending. The full romantic power of the music is consistently conveyed and, above all, the music-making is urgently spontaneous throughout, with the Oslo Philharmonic Orchestra always committed and fresh, helped by the richly atmospheric Chandos sound.'

Rezensionen
The sonic quality of these compact discs is flawless… I would say that it's safe to assume that this Chandos CD set is the definitive reading of these complete symphonies… I cannot recommend this compilation highly enough. American Record Guide
These award-winning recordings first alerted record collectors to Mariss Janson's remarkable abilities as an orchestral trainer. Virtually no-one outside Norway had ever heard of the Oslo Philharmonic until the mid-1980s, and yet here they are playing with a corporate virtuosity that still deeply impresses in every department, complemented to perfection by Chandos' sound of thrilling depth and power. Classic FM Magazine
These are performances to experience, marvellously played, vividly recorded… an investment for all seven symphonies that few listeners will regret. Classic CD
