Released in 1994 by the independent French label Maxbaam Records (catalog number 001), Intro is the only studio album by the 69 Bpm project. This work lies at the crossroads of electronic music, hip-hop, and jazz, adopting the aesthetic codes of trip-hop, acid jazz, and downtempo, which were then flourishing in the mid-90s.
Composed of eight tracks evenly split across two sides, the album features standout tracks such as "There's No Hour To Make Love" and "They Don't Know." Combining organic bass lines with typically hip-hop, understated rhythms and complex jazz arrangements, the production illustrates a little-known but highly accomplished facet of French music production.
